Eurasian Blackbird: Mutations

The captive bred Blackbird is available in quite a wide range of mutations:

Cinnamon: Cocks are an even rich ground coffee colour. Daffodil yellow beak and eye-ring. Brown eyes, light horn legs and feet.

Hens are generally of a lighter shade, more a milky coffee colour. Throat and upper breast are speckled. Yellow ochre beak and eye-ring, with the upper mandible still retaining a brown wash.

In both sexes, the colour should never be patchy or diluted excessively.

Sex-linked colour mutation.

Ino: Cocks are white, although a grey suffusion is allowed. Daffodil yellow beak and eye-ring. Deep red eyes, light horn to pink legs and feet, clear claws.

Hens are also white but with a lessened grey suffusion. There may be some slight throat and upper breast speckling. Yellow ochre beak and eye-ring, with the upper mandible still retaining a brown wash.

In both sexes, the colour should not contain heavy grey or brown suffusions or have any solid feathers whatsoever.

Sex-linked colour mutation.

Cinnamon-Ino (aka Satinette, Cream, Grizzle): A red-eyed self bird which appears visually as a clear bird i.e. white, only showing any melanistic colouring underneath the flight feathers which distinguish the Satinette as a self bird, not a clear bird.

Cocks are white with a light tan suffusion, thus the plumage looks creamy. Wings and tail are pale cinnamon with darked edging. Daffodil yellow beak and eye-ring. Deep red eyes, light horn to pink legs and feet, clear claws.

Hens are also white but with a lessened cinnamon suffusion, so are a very pale cream. Slight throat and upper breast speckling possibly present. Yellow ochre beak and eye-ring.

In both sexes, the colour should not be patchy or have a poor (too heavy or too light) cinnamon suffusion.

Sex-linked colour mutation.

Albino: Cocks are pure white with no suffusions at all. Daffodil yellow beak and eye-ring. Clear red eyes, flesh pink legs and feet, clear claws.

Hens are identical to cocks except for the yellow ochre beak and eye-ring.

In both sexes, the colour should not contain any colour suffusions or solid feathers whatsoever.

Recessive colour mutation.

Blue (aka Opal, Single Factor Dominant Dilute): A self-bird. Characterized by the inhibition of brown melanin in it's plumage thus creating a gray/blue striated melanistic pigmentation.

Cocks are an even rich slate blue. Minimal brown suffusion on the upper breast is allowed. Silvered tail (milky gray/blue glaze), with defined melanistic ticking and lacing (edging). Daffodil yellow beak and eye-ring. Dark eyes, diluted legs and feet.

Hens are also slate blue but edging is much more distinct. Yellow ochre beak and eye-ring, with the upper mandible still retaining a brown line.

In both sexes, the colour should not contain heavy brown suffusions or have any solid feathers whatsoever.

Dominant Dilute Single Factor (SF) colour mutation.

Silver (aka Agate, Double Factor Dominant Dilute): Cocks are an even silver colour with a characteristic moutache. Light silvered tail, with very fine and delicate melanistic edging. Daffodil yellow beak and eye-ring. Dark eyes, diluted legs and feet.

Hens are identical to cocks but the edging is slightly more distinct and she retains the yellow ochre beak and eye-ring, and the brown line on the upper mandible.

In both sexes, the colour should not contain brown suffusions or any solid feathers.

Dominant Dilute DF colour mutation.
