On average the Cole and Fern tend to produce a lot of visual Normal Greys and also the odd Pearl or Cinnamon and very rarely CInnamon Pearls. Every bird they have previously bred has been a split to at least one of the following colours: Cinnamon, Pearl & Pied.

The pair have had a total of 14 chicks over 2 seasons with a ratio of 12 cocks to 2 hens.

Fledgling Price:

Parent-reared aviary birds are £10 each for Normal Greys & splits, £14 each for Pieds, Cinnamon-Pearls & Cinnamon-Pearl-Pieds. Discount given if more than one bird is bought.

If tame, the price will be £30 ono.

Normal Grey cock & Light Pied cock

1st fledged Friday 14th October 2005

2nd Fledged Saturday 15th October 2005

The first chick is very boisterous, moany, grumpy and 'flitty', whilst the second is generally more docile, sweet and likes being with people. The latter chick is also finger tame and likes being stroked.

Both chicks were head-plucked, and thus emerged from the nest looking like little vultures! This is the first time Cole & Fern have ever done this, and I presume it is because the chicks didn't fledge on time. Both chicks are very small for their age, though I've no doubt they will soon catch up with their growth.

The oldest Normal Grey chick is definately split to Cinnamon-Pearl & possibly Pied. The Light Pied chick (3 white feathers on nape and partial white rump), is definately split to Cinnamon-Pearl.

06/02/06 Update At nearly 5 months old, both fledglings are doing well and are overwintering in an outdoor mixed flight with their parents, who are unfortunately still slightly overpreening the two of them.

One is definately a cock bird as he's started singing. I shall be keeping an eye on the other one. Both are still in baby plumage and show no signs of their adult moult yet (probably because it's too cold!).

01/05/07 Update Both are cocks, now named: & . Both have moutled out but still have a couple of lightly flecked grey tail feathers.

All eggs were laid whilst the latter chicks were about a week old. None hatched and were discarded.
